Anduran

Identification: Andurans are an avian race of humanoids. They average about 1.6 meters tall and weigh up to 75 kilograms. Females are generally slightly larger than the males. Skin coloration is often a light brown or tan, but colors as dark as black are known to exist. All Andurans possess feathery wings imbued with magic which give them the ability of flight. The wings are usually a darker shade of brown or gray. Facial and body shape tend to be sharp and pointed, resembling that of birds of prey. Some rarer breeds actually have taloned hands and feet.

Habitat and Culture: Andurans most often dwell in mountainous or heavily forested areas, preferring to build their homes well above the ground. They despise enclosed dwellings and rarely venture underground. Anduran communities are made up of extended families, almost never numbering over 50 or 60 individuals. These communities, called flocks, tend to isolate themselves from land dwelling races, whom Andurans consider to be inferior because of their inability to fly. Andurans do have a great affinity for nature and this joy does cause them to occasionally share company with the Karanesti, Nekrons, and Trollkin.

Andurans are also a very emotional race. When they are angered they can rant and rave for days, and likewise, when they are happy they tend to dance and sing wildly. This intense emotion makes them greatly reverred as artists. There are a great number of minstrels and poets among the anduran people.

Andurans have a strict matriarchal society. The males are most often food gatherers and provide care for the young. The females are well known for their domination of the males, and most Anduran females will take several husbands. This also leads to their rough relations with other races because of the position of males in society. In trade and business negations, some Andurans will refuse to deal with males of other species under any circumstances. This obviously makes other races leery of dealing with Andurans.

Racial Abilities: An Anduran's wings are imbued with magic that enables flight, and they can double their normal movement rate by flying. The eyesight of Andurans is extremely adept for making out details over great distances, and they have superior night vision and are able to see clearly across any terrain. Only the Mists impair their incredible vision. Andurans have mastered the art of combat from the air and suffer no penalties for fighting while in flight.

Attribute Modifiers: Andurans are slightly more coordinated than average and are very perceptive. The snobbish attitude of the females and the subdued manners of the males makes them less favorable to other races and their generally primitive intellect limits their intelligence. They are not quite as adept at magic as some of the other races, but they have been known to sling a spell or two.
