Janne Lonnqvist reports on the Summer Solstice, or Midsummer, Rage: Tribal War tournament in Helsinki, Finland.

I had a gut feeling that not that many people would attend, and it was unfortunately true. Midsummer is one of the traditional Finnish holidays (such as X-mas, new Year, May Day etc.) and on traditional holidays almost everyone and their little sister will get absolutely and totally drunk. In addition to this most people will get out to countryside either to their summer cottage by a lake to light up a bonfire and go to sauna or go to huge music festivals. So I made a new cub deck to reflect this; Fianna with 5 cubs and almost all the beer cards that can be fitted in (I think I dropped just one War Whiskey). Unfortunately there are no bonfire or sauna cards in the game, but I added few War Paints so that when the kids are dead drunk they can paint their faces in the tradition of Norwegian metal bands and start picking fights with old seniles. Unfortunately this tactic didn´t work out and my cubbies were shown their true place in the Sept. Wyrm kills/points of round (total points) I ROUND Pts Samuli Linden Philodox 9/20 Jere Suvanto Fianna -/10 Tommi Nirha Wendigo -/8(all cubs) Nina Jatuli Galliard 4/4 Janne Lönnqvist Fianna Cubs - WYRM 14 II ROUND Tommi Nirha Wendigo 9/20(6 cubs) (9/28) (14 cubs) Samuli Linden Philodox -/11 (9/31) Jere Suvanto Fianna -/10 (-/20) Nina Jatuli Galliard 1/3 (5/7) Janne Lönnqvist Fianna Cubs - (-) WYRM - (14) III ROUND Nina Jatuli Galliard 14/21 (19/28) Samuli Linden Philodox 8/16 (17/47) Tommi Nirha Wendigo 8/12(2 cubs) (17/40) (16 cubs) Jere Suvanto Fianna -/11 (-/31) Janne Lönnqvist Fianna Cubs - (-) WYRM - (14) FINAL ROUND & TOTAL SCORE Tommi Nirha Wendigo 4/21 (21/61) (20 cubs) Samuli Linden Philodox 4/7 (21/54) Nina Jatuli Galliard -/16 (19/44) Jere Suvanto Fianna 8/8 (8/39) Janne Lönnqvist Fianna Cubs 4/4 (4/4) WYRM 1 (15) Highlights: Total of 20 cubs killed by Wendigos! (I had feared that my "Finnish Midsummer with drunken cubs"-deck might encounter the chilly norhthern climate (in the form of Chill of the Early Frost). Unfortunately it did in the first game. Samuli had the same problem during the 2nd game with his "stack all the Philodox cubs you can"-deck as he wanted to have as many Philodox Garous around to be boosted with +3 renown in voting...) I had to use my Regis Wallace (or Wallu as he´s known amongst the local kids as he fetches booze for them) as alpha during the 1st game and he came close to dying as the combat deck is built for cubs, poor victims etc. Regis already had 2 wounds because of the Chill of Early Frost and he had to defend himself with Take the Pain (I thought he was in a world of hurt), but the opponent merely used Fight on! Probably the toughest Fight on! ever, eh? Fishbone Walker seemed to get mad during the finals because his (her?) pack hadn´t scored any renown yet. After activating War paint Fishy uses Instintive Backlash and hopes for the best... and Wakshani plays Go for the Throat. Smack! And below is Tommi´s winning deck: Speaks-of-Fire (wendigo lupus philodox) Leeds Quick-to-Anger (wendigo metis galliard) Talks-to-Spirits (wendigo lupus theurge) Allies Dust Spirit *3 Enemies Mind Eater Equipment Spirit Whistle Events Pounce Counting Coup *3 Hail the Sun *3 Chill of the Early Frost *2 Doing Gaia's Work *3 Hunt Blessing *2 Scalp Hunt *3 Gifts Tornado River*2 Healing Sleep Wisdom of the Ancient Ways Wendigo Scream*2 Song of the Seasons*3 Sky Running *2 Inquire of Gaia Camouflage Moots Ditch Fight *3 Proving Ground *2 Challenge the Leader Rites Rite of the Parted Veil The Trodden Track Victims Sig Royfried Full moon Crush Bear Hug Big Honkin' Club Evan's Move Quick Slash Nasty Neck Kick Swipe Roundhouse Don't Even Try Twist Knife New Moon Dishin' Up the Combo Channel Spirit Deflect the Blow Fetal Position Steel Jaw Block and Strike Steel Arm to the Chest Y'Broke Mah Laig! One source says that winner can choose from Victory Pile the winner had during ANY round of the tournament and other says that from the FINAL round. In addition Tommi would like to get more cards listed (if any other players would happen remember them, but they haven´t indicated whether they´d remember any or not). When I e-mailed Tommi this morning (now it is early evening around here) that I´d like to have a card picked from the cards that we were able to remember or I had to randomly choose a card, I only got the following answer (which I take as a "up yours" or "choose yourself" as he hasn´t replied to my second, more recent, plea to pick a card): "This little piggy wallowed in a wyrm warren this little piggy had some fun with his brethren this little piggy went and ate a few children this little piggy tried to make a caern barr*splash*" So out of these 15 cards I randomly (with a trusty D20) managed to select HOGLING (threw a 15). Sorry for the mess, but we didn´t have the full details for the tournament and the card choosing had to be more hurried than the winner would´ve liked because of other tournaments. If Azrael folks are unhappy with these decisions feel free to decide that our tournament didn´t qualify as a Storyline Tournament (making its results void) or decide another card if my method wasn´t approvable. Take care, Janne, Tamagotchi Wolverine
