Reapers

The Dead, Baggers, Boxers

The Reapers are the morticians and undertakers guild. They are an integral part of every town, taking care of the preparations and funeral arrangements, as well as disposing of the body. Cemetery space is limited, and very expensive, so most bodies are cremated and scattered into the Mists. They also supply parts to the Grindmasters, sometimes with the victim's family consenting and sometimes without. It has been rumored that when business is slow, the Reapers have funded expeditions by the Hunters Guild and the Crimson Brothers. It is also suspected that the Reapers have been the motivating force behind some recent guild wars.

The Hunters Guild uses the Reapers quite frequently, many times relying upon them to dispose of an accident. The Tricksters have used the Reapers for the same reason. The Grindmasters get the majority of their necessary components from the Reapers and it is said that the two guilds work so closely that they must have once been a single group.

While nearly everyone sees the Reapers as a necessity, not everyone particularly likes them. The Arbitrators keep a close eye on them, watching for any questionable behavior. The Freemen and the Dwellers also dislike the Reapers, primarily because they cannot afford their services and must dispose of their dead on their own. Of course the Reapers may feel generous at times and take the body off their hands, and then deposit it into the Grindmasters hands.

The Reapers make their main home in Mt. Cracken in Aerdmoor. They have a thriving business and have locations in every major city and town in the True Realms.

The Dark Brother is the guild leader of the Reapers. No one knows his true identity, but it is known that he is an anduran. He is said to be the only one that can make deals with any of the other guilds, such as funding the Hunters Guild from time to time. He refers to any such actions as population control in these trying times.

“Well, he looks dead to me. Then again, when I'm through it won't matter.”

Saviors of the Realms

Warlords, Bloodies

The Saviors of the Realms are a ruthless and bloodthirsty group of anuir. They are dedicated to one purpose, the subjugation of all other races. They believe that the anuir are the only true and pure descendants of mankind and the other races are abominations. The Saviors of the Realms deal in hard to acquire goods as well, primarily slaves. They will trade slaves with other races, apparently money talks louder than their beliefs.

The Cult of Malus often buys slaves from the Saviors of the Realms, which are most likely used in sacrificial ceremonies. There is also talk that the Mistrunners Association has funded more than one of their slaving expeditions. The Saviors of the Realms also have been known to work with some anuir members of the Purifiers to achieve similar goals.

The Arbitrators spend a great deal of effort fighting the Saviors of the Realms. The Freemen are also a sworn enemy of the Saviors of the Realms as well. Seeing as most of the Freemen are former slaves, they would love to get back at their former masters.

The Saviors of the Realms center of operations in is Aerdmoor. The run a large salve trading ring in Mt. Cracken.

Throstald Bonemuncher is the cruel chieftain of the Saviors of the Realms. He has been known to feed upon slaves that are too weak to be sold, thus his less than appealing name.

“She's a feisty one, should I kill her? Naw, it'll be a lot more fun breaking her spirit.”

Sisterhood of Stevra, Queen of the Abysmal Pits

Sisters

This all female group is dedicated to the worship of the Dark Queen, Stevra. Even though males are never allowed into the folds of the Sisterhood they are often used for duties that occur outside of the actual religious realms, such as messengers and mercenaries. Males are never allowed into any temples of Stevra, no exceptions. The women that make up the ranks of the Sisterhood are all well trained in many areas, both mundane and combat oriented. The Sisterhood is very active in local communities, housing the poor and destitute.

The Sisterhood makes use of the Crimson Brothers quite often and considers them a strong ally. The Mistrunners Association is another powerful ally. Many of the Sisters are licensed mistrunners. They also have been known to work with the Church of He, opening soup kitchens for the poor and homeless. The Dwellers and Freemen will also stand up for the Sisterhood because of the support they receive from its members.

The Cult of Malus is the most hated of all by the Sisterhood of Stevra. Legend has it that Malus and Stevra are brother and sister, but rather than follow in her evil brothers footsteps, Stevra chose a more noble path. The Cult of Malus and the Sisterhood are openly in conflict.

Stevra's Oasis in Wayfarers Way is the main temple of the Sisterhood of Stevra. They control a large well in the poorer section of town and work a lot with the community.

Sister Solias Menban is the high priestess of Stevra. She is an ambitious and driven woman, often trying to find ways to solidify her power while showing good face to the public. Everyone knows she is too egotistical to last much longer at her position.

“Men aren't exactly bad, just not as good as women.”

Techers

Gearheads, Lostmen, Finders

The guild of the technicians and technological historians spend most of their time doing archaeological research and exploration all around the True Realms and the Mists. For the most part they disapprove of magic, although not violently. They truly believe that one day technology will rise up and once again save the world from utter chaos.

The Techers are closely allied with the Historians Guild, and often rely upon them for information on the past. The Freemen are also allied with the Techers. The Techers often hire people off the streets for work at excavation sites, the pay is fair and the work reasonable. The Armadillo Hunters and Crimson Brothers support and finance many excavations, in the hopes that newer and better weapons can be made.

The Collegiate Society of Supernatural Practitioners dislikes the Techers, fearing that technology will only serve to undermine their power. The wage a secret war against the Techers, sabotaging sites and ambushing caravans, anything to stop progress.

The Techers base themselves in Wayfarers Way. They own a long stretch of warehouse property near the main docks.

Dr. Leas Wagnar, a gnomish inventor with a knack for long winded speeches, is the head research advisor to the guild. While she is rarely present at the annual guild meetings, her papers are well distributed among the guild's members. The papers are filled with her ramblings of a future that is filed with skyscrapers and energy powered vehicles, most people think she is quite mad.

“With a small power source, like a battery, a series of wires and connector plates along with the proper fuses, I could make a self contained light source. Now isn't that easier than some silly spell.”

Tricksters

Sweepers

Thieves, cutthroats, and footpads comprise the bulk of this mischievous group. The playful name shouldn't fool anyone. This groups members are not to be taken lightly, true they would rather run than fight, but if it comes down to it they will fight ferociously, and use every dirty trick in the book. Rather than allowing its members to simply steal at will, the guild has established some rules. Failure to follow the rules means expulsion from the guild, and that means expulsion from the city under the guild's influence. Members may not steal from other members, or from the poor. Other people that have done favors for the Tricksters around the Realms are listed as off limits as well.

The Midnight Society and Ocrchid Preservation Society are good friends of the Tricksters. The Tricksters, after all, supply both guilds with the bulk of their merchandise. The Freemen and Dwellers are often linked with the Tricksters as well, especially when one considers the rule that prevents thieves from robbing the poor. People on the street will often defend members of the Tricksters from local authorities.

Because they are always on the wrong side of the law, the Tricksters have made enemies of the Arbitrators. The Church of He and Sisterhood of Stevra also condemn the actions of the Tricksters, but they rarely take any action against them.

Each city has its own guild with its own headquarters. The unofficial base of operations is in Unterway.

The current leader of this band of rogues is Larle “Deep Pockets” Maroni. This dracon runt rose to power through a series of exquisite robberies that netted the guild quadruple its normally yearly take. Although he is the official King of Thieves, he has little power over the individual guilds, which are run by independently from town to town.

“If it ain't nailed down, well...”

Undersiders

Misties, Flip-flops

The Undersiders aren't really a guild, just a collection of oddities. These are the deranged people that chose to live on the undersides of the True Realms. Most of them are quite mad from overexposure to the Mists. The undersides are a weird place, not quite in the Mists and not quite in the True Realms; it tends to play havoc with people's minds.

Most people leave the Undersiders to themselves. Occasionally the Freemen or Dwellers will work with the Undersiders, but such unions are few and far between.

The only actual enemy the Undersiders face would be the Arbitrators, who occasionally try to clean up the undersides by sweeping patrols through the area and gathering up all the miscreants. Most other guilds leave the Undersiders be.

There is no headquarters for this group as the organization is almost non-existent.

This group has no leadership at all. Small bands may select an individual to lead them, but no one speaks for the group.

“See, it's all a conspiracy! The Faeries are working with the drugas to overthrow the other races, but they don't know about the secret alliance between the nekrons and the dragons!”
